Ru-Ridge Toggenburgs and Saanens

Welcome to Ru-Ridge Toggenburgs and Saanens. 

I got started in goats the same way many of us do...they were a 4-H project.  They are such a great project that you find yourself wondering how you could ever be without them.  So here I am several years later with my own small herd of Toggenburgs, with a growing number of Saanens and a couple of lovely Recorded Grades.  We also have a herd of Registered Holsteins.  Both the Holsteins and Dairy Goats are on DHIA and are scored using Linear Appraisal and Classification on a regular basis.  When we find time we try to make it to a couple of ADGA shows, however I feel that Linear appraisal is just as good of an indicator of quality.  In 2008 I purchased my first two Saanen's, I have always admired the Saanen breed they are very beautiful and are a welcomed addition to the herd.

Ru-Ridge is located just a short drive south of Duluth or about 2 hours North of the Twin Cities in Carlton MN.  We live on the second highest point in Carlton county and have a wonderful view overlooking Jay Cooke state park, and on a clear day you may be able to catch a glimpse of Lake Superior.  Along with the wonderful view we also get to enjoy the cool East wind that blows off of Lake Superior.  So if you ever see us at a show where the temperature is 85 or above we will all be suffering, as we only have to endure these kind of temps a few days out of the year.  Although we do seem to get enough warm growing days for us to grow and sell Sweet Corn, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower and Pumpkins.  The Pumpkin patch has been slowly growing and is currently a little over 2 acres this year.

Ru-Ridge Starbuck Trinity 2*M                    

Trinity now resides in the Knotneer herd owned by Anna Severson.  The story of how Trinity arrived there is quite interesting and is better told by Anna.  Trinity has proven herself as a wonderful milking doe.  She was the Top production Toggenburg doe in 2007 producing 4620lbs of milk, 123 fat and 107 protein.  Thank you to Anna for giving Trinity a wonderful home.  Trinity did it again!  She is the top Toggenburg production doe for 2008 producing 4130lbs of milk, 122 fat and 93 protein.
